Why I Think Dressing Nice is Self-Care

Who do you think women dress for? I have heard different answers to this question. If the woman wears clothes that accentuate her body, like bodycon dresses or low-cut tops; some quickly assume that she dresses for men. If she chooses colorful prints and A-line dresses (think Jess from New Girl), some claim she falls into a category of women who dress for other women; hoping to be recognized for their fashion sense.

My Birthday: Ariel, Beyoncé, and Life Not Going According to Plan

Is it the Leo in me wanting to be celebrated, or my sweet-tooth inner child craving cake and ice cream? Either way, I have always loved to celebrate my birthday. To this day I remember most of my birthday gifts, including the Dónde están los ladrones? Shakira CD.

Visiting Facebook's Headquarters in a Maxi Dress

I imagined the building would look like their logo: blue and corporate. Executives wearing ties, glancing at their watches and rushing to the next meeting. Like many, I heard rumors of how wonderful companies like Facebook and Google are. But they were just rumors, and can not compare to actually being there.

Granada, Nicaragua

It was December 31st, in the late 80's. As the clock struck midnight, my grandmother grabbed a suitcase and ran out to the street; I followed her. We ran to the corner, passing by a cemetery, and then back home. My grandmother told me she did it for good luck; it was supposed to attract trips to the new year. She has traveled to countless places, and was the one who stirred in me that urge to move, to cross at least the street, to explore, observe, smell and feel.

The Cozy Cardigan

On the first of January at midnight, the temperature in Columbia was -21°C; today we are at -8°C and I'm really glad that it’s “warmer”. However, it is still necessary to wear several layers of clothing and coats. One of the pieces that I have used the most this week is this Charlotte Russe cardigan that my sister gave me.

What Lays in the Mezzanine

These costumes are more than fabric and thread. Behind their seams and silhouettes, they hold priceless stories about American history and culture. Their home is close by, but most days, you wouldn’t even notice it is there. Among the classroom buildings and the green areas at Stephens College, the Historic Costume Gallery rests quietly trapped in the mezzanine, between the first and second floor of the Lela Raney Wood Hall.

KCFW-S/S '18

What are fashion shows all about? Is it the excitement that you feel when a model comes out wearing something fabulous, the anticipation for what will come out next, the desire to own those garments? I think it goes beyond deciding if what you are looking at is something that you would wear or not.
