Dolyn Bags & Architexture

In a time where fast fashion supplies the market with inexpensive, but pretty much disposable items; it is imperative that we show more support to designers like Ami Beck and Christina Becchetti Moncke. Last week, Will and I had the opportunity to meet both designers when we covered a shoot for Kansas City Fashion Collaboratives Magazine.

Plan. Dream. Live.

Plans. Plans give meaning to our lives; they give us something to look forward to. They make those long hours at work worth it. Will and I have been making plans for our near future and I couldn’t be more excited. The trick when you plan is that you also have to learn to appreciate the beauty of what life gives you. Be spontaneous, and don’t freak out if something deviates a little from the path you’ve carefully prepared.

Cold Days, Costa Rica

Choosing what to wear on a cold or windy day is always a challenge. I love pictures where clothes wave with the wind. On the other hand, if I am wearing a loose short dress or skirt, it may get very uncomfortable. On this throw back post of a trip to the Irazu volcano, I made sure I was warm by wearing booties and a sweater, and to add some movement I designed a long skirt.

Runway love-KCFW

Fashion is such an amazing thing. It is an art of individual expression; where everyone gets to be different and have her/his own style. It also tells the story of who we have been (think of the opulent dresses queens wore, the drama of punk, the simplicity of jeans) and of who we are today, together, as a community. Fashion differentiates us, but it also units us. Last Friday night at the Kansas City Fashion Week we were all united by fashion, surprise, and so much LOVE.

Chiefs of the Runway - KCFW

Last Thursday night (10/13), the Kansas City Chiefs latest fan apparel was seen in a very different field. Far away from turf and bleachers, a collection of Chiefs’ inspired-wear was showcased at the Kansas City Fashion Week. The first styles shown were a glimpse of the cheerful outfits that would follow.

Garden Party-KCFW

Fashion week begins in Kansas City and although some might be surprised to hear this Midwest region is interested in apparel, this is nothing new. In the late 1940’s the Kansas City Garment District was a major clothing manufacturer, according to the KCFW website, at that time: “1 out of every 7 women in the United States purchased garments made in Kansas City”.

Lu in Blue

In this season of “Fashion weeks”, social media is flooded with updates regarding “new trends”, however as fashion connoisseurs have said in the past, what really prevails is style.  A simple search for #streetstyle on Pinterest will prove that point, when garments are combined in a smart way, we like what we see, without thinking to much about what pants style or which  colors are dominating the season’s runways.

La Musa: Second Issue

Yuli, designer of her brand “La Musa”, contributed with bracelets and an absolutely gorgeous handcrafted necklace. The hand-painted pieces of balsa wood give added value and originality to the product. When using this type of “statement jewelry”, we should see the accessories as an important part of the outfit and consider the style and color palette we’re looking to achieve.
